- How does it work?
It's simple: Members will be asked to submit ideas for various aspects of the story. For example: "Tell us about the main character. Include a detailed description and motivation." Members will submit their ideas.
During the submission period, members will be able to comment on each other's
submissions. You will also have the opprotunity to change your submission until the time that
the submission and comment period closes. Then the voting begins. When the voting opens, all members will vote in three rounds to determine the "winner":
- Round 1, where the ideas are narrowed to the top 10.
- Round 2, which narrows to the top 3.
- And a final round to choose the "winner".
The member who submitted the winning idea will
then be asked to write the details of their submission.
For example, if the submission was about the scene in which the protagonist confronts the antagonist,
the member will write the scene included the dialog between the characters.
All submissions will then be complied and edited by our professional editors for consistency
and flow into a final novel that will be published into the first novel with One
Million Authors! You,along with the general public, will then be able to
purchase a copy of the final novel. Members whose submissions were chosen to be
part of the story will recieve special reconition at the beginning of the novel as "Contributors".
Members without winning submission will be recognized in the author volumes of the book (see
the answer to Question 7).
- Will I get to read the novel as it progresses?
Now where's the suspense in that?
Members will be able to see the winning submissions for each question that
is asked, but the final text will be held in secret until the book is published.
You have a fairly good idea as to what will happen -
just like you might when you read the inside jacket of a book -
but enough suspense will be in the mix so you won't be able to wait to
get your hands on the final book to find out every twist and turn in a story which
you helped to shape.
Add to that the fact that the questions we'll ask members to respond to
will be driven by the winning submissions of the previous questions means that you
might never know where the story will lead.
Nothing is predetermined. Not even the type of novel!
Sign up to be a part of shaping this historical masterpiece before it's too late!
- Is there a limit on the number of members?
We're looking for exactly 1,000,000 members to help us write
this book. No more. So register today to ensure you're part of history!
- What is the membership fee?
The standard membership fee is $3.99 USD. The membership fee will be
discounted from the purchase price of the published book for all members.
So if you join and buy the book, the net cost is nothing to you.
- Why is there a membership fee?
One Million Authors relies on membership fees to support its operation expenses.
Unlike other some Web sites, we do not rely on advdertising for income. (We don't want the creative process to have distractions.)
In addition, One Million Authors does not sell any member information (that
includes email addresses) to third parties for income.
- What does the membership fee include?
The membership fee includes access to the One Million Authors Web Site and the content on the Web site. The membership fee allows members to participate in the generation of story ideas for the book. For example, members submit ideas on characters, plot, scenarios, scenes, and story arc. Members also have the privilege of
commenting and voting on the ideas submitted by other members. The member whose submission
has the most votes at the end of three rounds of voting will be asked to provide
the details of their piece of the story for inclusion in the final book. The membership fee also includes regocnition of the members in the final published Member Volume of the book.Membership expires when the final book is published.
- Will my name be on the cover of the book?
Obviously 1,000,000 names won't fit on the cover of a book. A standard novel contains between 250,000 and 300,000 words alone. Members whose submissions are selected as part of the story through the voting process (see Question 1) will be recognized at the beginning of the novel volume as "Contributors".
However, to ensure that all members get recognized, we will be publishing the novel plus an additional 3 volumes containing all of our members' names.
Names will be listed alphabetically by last name and then by order in which members registered.
- Will I be an author?
Yes! Each member will be listed in one of the author volumes of the book (see answer to Question 7) as an author. Members whose submissions are selected as part of the story through the voting process (see Question 1) will be
receive special recognition at the beginning of the novel volume as "Contributors".
For legal and copyright purposes, One Million Authors, LLC. will be the copyright holder and author of the final published work. Please see the One Million Authors Terms and Conditions for details on copyright and ownership.
- When will the book be published?
We anticiapte the entire process of getting the ideas, characters, plot, and other elements of the book determined and written by members within 6 months of reaching 50% membership (500,000 members). After all the elements are in place, our editors will edit, polish and ensure that the story is cohesive and reads as if it were written by one hand. This process will take 2-3 months. So, from the time we start to publish we anticipate to be 9 months. But the sooner we get the first 500,000 members for our kickoff, the faster we can get started, so be sure to invite your friends to
become members!
- How much will the book cost?
While the final price has not been set, we anticiapte the cost for the completed novel to be similar to that of other books.
Members will receive a discount equivalent to the membership fee.
- What do you mean by "all profits from the sale of the novel will go to charity"?
Exactly that. All profits - that is the proceeded from the sale of the book
after the publishing and administrative costs are subtracted - will be donated
to a charitable organization. And just like with the authoring of the novel,
members will be able to submit suggestions for the charity and all members will
vote to select the organization to which the proceeds will be donated.
- What name will you use for me in the book?
To make sure each of our members is properly represented as an author in the published book, there will be one
final request for submissions just before the book is published asking you how you would
like your name to appear in the published version. (Don't worry, there won't be any comment or voting period for these submissions.) At this time, you tell us how you'd like your name to appear in the book.We do it this way first and foremost because we don't retain any of your billing information you provide to use when you join (see our Privacy Policy for details). Secondly, some members may wish to use a "pen-name" rather than
their real name. This affords you the opportunity to do so. Please note that names submitted will be validated for appropriateness under the guidelines in our Terms and Conditions.
